Libris

Libris teaches children to read

Libris helps develop literacy skills by reading books, highlighting words as it speaks them.
The Libris library contains hundreds of books from around the world at various reading levels, meeting most children's interests and needs.

The App

As the child turns the pages, Libris reads the words aloud and highlights them, helping to associate the printed and spoken words.

Libris works in the browser on your computer, tablet, or phone. It is 100% free and contains no ads.

Child mode provides a simple interface geared towards young children. Turn off auto-reading when you want to read the books to your child, or when they are ready to read on their own.

About Libris

The challenge

  • One out of six children who are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade do not graduate from high school on time. That is a rate four times greater than for proficient readers.
  • Almost two-thirds of fourth graders in the US do not read at a proficient level.
  • Underserved populations, minorities, and the poor are especially at risk.

The Libris Solution

  • Libris provides a library, an app, and a program that serve an individualized reading experience to children.
  • Research shows that the frequency of reading to children at a young age has a direct positive effect on their schooling outcomes regardless of their family background and home environment.
  • Using Libris, teachers and caregivers can expose children to repeated reading, resulting in significant positive effect on their reading and cognitive skills.
